IBM Interactive Experience (IBM iX), IBM’s digital agency, has hired Simon Lockyer as director of business design, IBM iX ASEAN. Lockyer will be reporting to Stefan Hirsch, ASEAN lead digital strategy and iX.
In his new role, Lockyer will be responsible for business development, digital strategy and client services. He has over 15 years of experience in the region and was formerly the CEO of FCB Singapore, where he was appointed to relaunch the agency in Singapore. Prior to FCB Singapore, he was the regional director at Droga5 and the international business director at TribalDDB.
“With its ability to deliver on all elements of strategy, creativity and technology, I am super excited to join IBM iX. Digital reinvention is a priority for many organisations and IBM iX is unique in fusing IBM capabilities such as design thinking, cognitive solutions, IoT and agile delivery,” Lockyer said.
Meanwhile, Hirsch joined IBM from Sapient Nitro in 2015 to establish IBM iX in ASEAN. IBM Studios, a design centre which was set up in 2016, serves as the regional hub for Asia and houses 150 staff members of IBM iX. It has teams in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Manila. During a conversation with Marketing, Hirsch said IBM iX leverages on its industry-specific knowledge to offer strategy consulting to clients on areas ranging from management and digital to business.
“We are delighted to welcome Simon to IBM iX and the Singapore studio and reckon his deep brand and customer experience will be a great addition to the team,” Hirsch said.
Currently, IBM iX’s design team is responsible for conceptualising and building both the front and back end of mobile apps for clients. This is so that the company “can go much deeper into the technology stack to make sure it works”.
IBM iX is currently working with a wide range of clients on their digital reinvention priorities including Singapore Airlines and Siam Commercial Bank. In the case of Singapore Airlines, IBM iX implemented two mobile applications for its pilots. Its “FlyNow” app supports the pilots in flight preparation and provide relevant and timely operation information, while the ‘Roster’ app enhances pilot awareness of their assigned duties, along with their qualification compliance for operations.
