Surina Shukri Is The MDEC’s New CEO

Shukri is replacing Yasmin Mahmood, who quit the organisation last year to join a Jakarta-based tech venture

The Communications and Multimedia Ministry announced today Surina Shukri’s appointment as the new chief executive officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corp Sdn Bhd (MDEC).

Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo said that Surina’s three-year appointment is effective today, 16 January 2019.

Gobind said Surina will replace former MDEC CEO Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, who resigned on Dec 7 last year.

Gobind said: “I am confident that Surina will strive to continue building MDEC with her leadership and experience and take MDEC to a higher level, not only in Malaysia, but globally.”

According to Gobind, Surina developed a major portion of her career in the US and she has returned to Malaysia to play her new role in MDEC.

Gobind said Surina acumulated more than 20 years of experience working in multinational companies like JPMorgan Chase & Co and startups in the financial, natural resource, energy and technology sectors.
